ISLAND BOUND 2007-2008 !!!!

I'm glad you made it to this site and welcome. This is about a trip of a lifetime for two men Ryan Quick and Wayne Dewyer. I Wayne, have though about sailing from Michigan tothe Bahamas for some time now, maybe as early as 12 years of age. Ryan has thought about it for many years himself. So when we sat down one night and talked about sailing some 3500 miles on a sailboat from Ludington, Michigan to the Bahamas via the Great Lakes and the Intercoastal Waterways a trip developed within us. How do we go about this trip was the next question. I didn't even have a boat at this time. So we started looking for the boat. We found a boat located north of Traverse City Michigan and we were off to look at it. The boat looked good and I beleived it would fit our needs and our pocket book. I offered the young man a price and with Josh, the owner needing to finish his college education he excepted my offer the boat was purchased. So a month after the idea was brought upwe had a boat and was ready to go get it. We took off with a truck we barrowed from Ryans brother, some straps and lights to attach to the trailer that the boat sat on. We arrived to get the boat hooked up and found the trailer was in terrible shape with two flat tires to add to it. We looked at each other shrugged our sholders and started hooking up the boat and pulling it out of the yard it was stored in for the past three years. I pulled it slowly to a tire shop pumped up the tires attached the lights and we were off back to Ludington with this boat. It took us nearly 14 hours to take this boat back after the tire shop said we would never make it five miles on these tires, showed them didn't we. How we didn't get pulled over I will never know seeing we were over size, under prepared and just plain ellegal towing this boat some 100 miles on the highways. The boat made it home and we parked it getting some sleep and preparing it to launch it in the next couple of days. Who's idea was this anyway! We painted the bottom fixed some things and decided to launch it our selves oh what were we thinking. It went quite well actually we tied a chain on the trailer dropped it down the launch ramp until the boat floated off the trailer, it looked like a bad thing but it worked. We had a large crowd of people watching us something we have gotten use to. The boat was in and it wasn't sinking we are off to a good start. We next put the mast up on the sailboat and took it over to Harbor Veiw Marina to spend a month sailing and learning just what the hell we were getting ourselves into. The time went by sailing and cleaning the boat till September 21st came along and we said goodbye to everyone and we have sailed some 1800 miles to Annapolis, Marrilynn were we are getting ready to head for Norfolk, Virginia. As I said you can go to the link WWW.MYSPACE.COM/SKIPPERFOUND and you can read more on the trip. Here you can read blogs and see some video of this crazy adventure.
